Now that we have entered the new year, let us, as those wise men of the east, lay our gifts before the Lord our God.
Driven by the sign of a star, those three persons, gentiles to Israel, came to pay homage to one worthy of praise.
As people of God, each unique in our selves, let us bring into this new year an affirmation of our talents and gifts whatever they may be, from sewing to state economics. May we offer our gifts in joyful thanks to the Lord who does create and embraces us in His loving kindness.
What can I give him
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would bring a lamb;
If I were a wise man
I would do my part;
Yet what I can give him –
Give my heart.
– Christina Rosetti (1830-94) ‘In the Bleak Mid-Winter’

They shall grow not old
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
From Laurence Binyon’s poem For the Fallen, written in September 1914
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Join us for our October devotion in Saint Martin’s Church on Sunday the 14th of October at 5pm.
“For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed. ‘For the Mighty One has done great things for me; and Holy is His name'” – Luke 1:48-49
In thanksgiving for the example of Mary who made herself to be absolutely one with the will of God so that she may glorify Him, we shall be praying the glorious mysteries of the rosary and will join ourselves with the source of all glory in the benediction of Our Lord.
Feel free to stay afterwards for high tea in the church vestry hall afterwards.
